Job Description -

We are seeking a P&C SME underwriter who would like to be part of a new MGA and work with the team as they look to grow the book and establish themselves in this space. It would suit a competent underwriter who is comfortable writing cases and building broker relationships. The MGA are developing their systems to quote and bind policies with ease so the role will focus on establishing broker contacts and writing cases which need a more bespoke approach. This is a Hybrid work environment - the team is based in London but the role could suit a regional underwriter with a minimum requirement of one day in the office for those who live further away.

Key Responsibilities -

• Demonstrated experience in commercial and SME underwriting, with strong knowledge of property and liability underwriting principles and risk assessment.
• Ability to interpret financial, operational, and asset-related data, with comfort using data-driven tools and analytics in underwriting decisions.
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to balance risk selection, pricing accuracy, and portfolio profitability.
• Effective communication and relationship-building skills, with experience working with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
• Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple submissions, deadlines, and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with standard office software and underwriting platforms; familiarity with AI-enabled or advanced analytics systems is an advantage.
• Knowledge of UK commercial insurance market practices and regulatory requirements; experience with MGA's or delegated authority arrangements is beneficial.
• Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., CII or equivalent) and/or a degree in a related field such as finance, business, economics, or risk management are preferred.
