We have an exciting new role that is perfect for someone who can think outside the box, is logical & highly analytical, wanting to learn about new and evolving areas, and has a real desire to help the world achieve net zero.
Job Description -
To come within range of its decarbonisation targets, the world must direct trillions towards carbon reduction—primarily via carbon markets. But carbon markets have a risk problem. Unaddressed, contract risks could impede buyer and investor interest in climate solutions and, by extension, global progress to net zero.
In recent years, global carbon markets have been galvanised by policy support. Regulation is on the horizon. Insurance is the final missing piece. For this, as it has for every market in modern history, insurance will be key to scaling finance, decreasing costs, and driving demand. For early movers, the opportunity - financial and environmental - is vast.
As a carbon insurance pioneer, our client's company de-risks global carbon markets to scale industry growth and accelerate climate action. Their innovative policies protect investors, developers, and customers against unforeseeable risk, raising the bar for contract certainty and market integrity.
Key Responsibilities -
As the Carbon Underwriter you will be responsible for managing and developing a specialised underwriting portfolio focused on the rapidly evolving carbon market. Your focus will be on managing one of the fastest growing product lines in our client’s portfolio, Corresponding Adjustment Protect, developed in response to a requirement to decarbonise the airline industry, that is expected to grow from c.$4m GWP to over $50m in the coming 3-5 years. This role combines technical underwriting expertise, market insight, and innovative product development to support sustainable growth in the carbon and climate risk space.
The Carbon Underwriter will structure and deliver bespoke insurance solutions that enable confidence and investment in carbon markets, positioning the business as a market leader in climate-related risk transfer.
Requirements -
- Minimum of five years’ London market underwriting experience, ideally within credit, political risk, or financial risk lines.
- Genuine passion for the carbon, climate, or sustainability sector, with a motivation to drive positive environmental impact through insurance solutions.
- Strong understanding of insurance placement processes, wordings, and legal frameworks.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; confident engaging with senior stakeholders internally and externally.
- Curious, proactive, and comfortable operating in a dynamic, evolving environment.
